Find a Home
04:45

you've been looking in the sea, you've been looking in the sky
trying to find
something with limbs like ours, something with brains like ours
something to guide us in our lives
well I'm telling you right here, you're looking too far
missing something right before our eyes
they got leaves instead of hair, they got bark instead of skin
though their feet are in the ground they've still got arms
oh the trees as they rise from the ground around us
down to the center of the earth
with the bones of their limbs rocked by the wind
will they ever find a home?
it isn't hard to see the resemblance, I don't think
for we're both planted and we sprout
and while we can run away with the use of our nice legs,
they'll stay just where they landed
earth and sun and rain is all they need each day,
they've no lust for material things
for they build no shopping malls and their garbage isn't hauled to piles of radioactive waste
oh the trees as they rise from the ground around us
down to the center of the earth
with the bones of their limbs rocked by the wind
will they ever find a home?
for centuries on end, they have tried to be our friends
they give shade and food and air and build our homes
oh but we don't seem to see their offer of peace
for we cut them ruthlessly by the dozen
and I thought the rule was: pick on someone your own size,
but I guess that doesn't apply to us
for though many times our height, they just can't put up a fight
they know that's not how things should work
oh the trees as they rise from the ground around us
down to the center of the earth
with the bones of their limbs rocked by the wind
will they ever find a home?

The Climb
05:23
|

when I flounder and drown, you well up in me
when lost I am found in the way that you see me
and when hope seems gone, I know that you will carry me
and I know, I know that life is short
and tide, my love, is high
"All that remains are your heart and your head,"
that's what he said the day that I left,
"and the uphill climb is the one worth fighting for."
worth fighting for
all that remains are your heart and your head:
that's what I whispered to myself,
and the one you love will show
and the one you love will show
there's no need to cry
there's no need to hide out
you've got to let it go
you've got to let it go
let it go
all that remains are your heart and your head
at the end of the day when you're lying in bed
and the one you love will show
and the life you live you chose

Exodus
04:00

sittin round the fire on the coldest nights, mother often cries
fingers in the dirt, heart below the earth, lines around her eyes
my grandfather lost his farm half century ago
since the day that I was born, the only thing I've known is this:
our feet fall heavy in the dust
hear the sound of exodus
all along the raw and wavering road
shedding tears for our home
I know that I'm not the only child living in a lie
mother always says only monsters live on the other side
but your eyes are amber color, just like mine
and your hands are soft as butter
you are not a crime to love
our feet fall heavy in the dust
we're the sound of exodus
all along the raw and wavering road
shedding tears for our homes
oh my love
they will try to keep us from each other
like the land is separated from itself
but I know one day we'll mend it
they will try to keep us from each other
like they try to stem the river's flow
but we will always be within each other's arms
at night, when we are in the dark
and dreams come about our fathers' lands
I will only hold your hand
all the love of man or woman:
one day they'll understand
